Blog# 16

In my previous blog, I commented thinking that was the last blog but there was one more. for this blog I want to show how to make a commercial. Filming a commercial is not an easy thing it requires knowledge, equipment and a very good production team. Some commercials are filmed in very expensive studios with cameras that we will wish to have. However more important than super expensive equipment is to apply the learned techniques and tips in order to produce a stunning product, in this case a commercial. Sometimes we can be surprise when we see some behind scenes of this productions. This commercial was filmed using a relative very inexpensive camera (about 1,400) but the technique used is what deliveries an outstanding result. Enjoy

Blog # 15

In my first blog I commented about Avatar the movie, I think this one of the greatest movies of all times, for its innovation, technology and many other reason that I already said before. however this is just my opinion and may be other who do not agree with me, but as always I respect that. I wanted to finish my last blog with Avatar as well but this time see more behind scenes and how the movie was filmed. What I want to point out is how all the members of the movie worked together to delivery such a master piece, as we saw earlier in the book Video Basics there nothing more important than working together as a family supporting each other. In this video we will have the chance to see James Cameron who is the director of the movie operating the camera and playing other important roles during the production of the movie, but let's see the video speak by itself.

in my first blog, I spoke about Avatar and how its technology changed the movie industry. One of  the many reasons this movie was so revolutionary it was for the breathtaking 3D technology. James Cameron the director of this master piece, was able to introduce new concepts to the movie industry by creating new cameras, specially 3D, but it is a 3D that goes beyond than the old red and blue 3D. I would like to speak more about it  but let's hear it from the expert James Cameron, who will explain how this new technology works.

As we had the chance to study in one of the chapter of the book, Video Production there is a very important topic for any video production regardless of their size small or big. Light is the element number one when you want to shoot any video, in fact light makes it possible because without we only will be able to see black. It does not matter if the light comes in a natural or artificial way the important factor is to know how to do the right set up in order to take advantage of their properties. Also the combination of different lights will provide viewers with many perspectives according to the light situation. To see how this works let me show you a very simple example of lighting.

Blog # 11

In one of my previous chapters I said cameras are the most important element of any video production, but when we talk about cameras we have to keep in mind the huge types of cameras available each one designed to perform an specific task or all depending in the budget. Video-cameras are the most frequently use to record video. They will provide the filmmaker with all the tools to bring to the screen a good video, but lately another type of camera is becoming huge when we want to film something and this type of camera is DSLR. DSLR cameras are mainly use for still pictures (photographs) but now more and more filmmakers are using them because of their size and superior video quality, including the ability to change the lens according to any shooting situation. Now let's watch a video about how is shooting video with a DSLR

In  previous chapters of our book Video Production there was a chapter dedicated to cameras and how to use them, cameras are the number one element for any video production without them video will be literally impossible. That is why is so important to know how use them appropriately. I am no going to go in very deep detail in how to use a camera because that will be very difficult to cover. However there is one part of you camera that will help you to get the most accurate colors and needs to be set correctly. White balancing is essential when we want to record and obtain true white colors, it is particular important to adjust the white balance when there are combinations of light such as ambient light and artificial light. Let's see a demonstration of how to adjust it.

When it comes about recording videos and some of the most used accessories to support the camera it is inevitable not to think in tripods. As we all know tripods are a must have accessory for any filmmaker, they will guarantee  professional and steady look. However there is another device that can come handy for any small video production and is limited to the imagination of the camera operator. That accessory is the monopod, monopods are mostly used for photographers but now many filmmakers are taking advantage of this small but very useful accessory. let's see some of its capabilities.

This video does not have anything to do with video production, or graphics. It is a simple way to explain how the borders between to countries like Canada and United States were formed. We may think that drawing these lines is an easy job, and when we see it in the map it looks so perfect, almost unbelievable to be real. Well that is exactly what it is, unreal and not so perfect after all. Check this video and you will know what I am talking about it.

As many of us in this class, we all like design, graphics and videos. I saw this video a year ago and  I thought it might be a good idea to share with you guys.  This video shows how with some creativity, no really with lots of creativity, imagination and knowledge you can create something truly amazing. How the animator used all the elements of his/her desktop to bring to life this little guy and begin a battle for the control of the computer. Enjoy
